At Pedal Cars Unlimited, we are committed to doing everything possible to make your child's pedal car experience memorable, safe and fun. Because we were pedal car users ourselves and have had the pleasure of supervising several younger generations of pedal car enthusiasts, we have learned and passed on what we believe are many important safety tips for young users. With that in mind, please take a moment to review the following summary of tips which we believe will add to your child's enjoyment and safety.

First the basics:
  • Pedal Cars have no automatic brakes.
  • Pedal Cars are very low to the ground.
  • Pedal Cars are propelled and also slowed by the direct action and force of the child's legs.
  • Pedal Cars have exposed pedal mechanisms (inside the car's body)
  • Pedal Cars have no floorboards (open bottom)
Now the application of procedures that will greatly add to your child's safe Pedal Car use:
  1. Because Pedal Cars have no automatic brakes and because the cars are propelled and slowed by the direct action of the child's legs, Pedal Cars should be used only on hard flat surfaces. The cars should be kept away from hills, sloped driveways, boat ramps and swimming pools, ponds or any open water where a child could accidentally fall into.
  2. Because Pedal Cars are low to the ground, you should be aware that adult automobile drivers may have difficulty seeing you youngster. Be sure to provide supervision around driveways where backing automobile drivers have limited visibility. Also, it is a good idea to make adult drivers in your neighborhood aware that youngsters with Pedal Cars may be present.
  3. Because Pedal Cars have an open underbody, make sure that your youngster always wears shoes.
  4. Don't allow your child to wear loose clothing while operating the Pedal Car. Loose clothing can become tangled in the pedal mechanism much like loose clothing can get caught in bicycle's chain. Especially avoid loose scarves that could pose a choking hazard.
  5. Finally, don't allow children to push the car while another child is in the car. Keep in mind that because the cars are direct drive, the faster the car is moving, the faster the child's legs must move to keep up with the pedals.

Obviously we can't anticipate every situation that could develop so please use common sense at all times when you child is operating his or her Pedal Car. Help us keep this wonderful tradition alive by passing on "Safe Pedal Car Rules" to the next generation and if you have a suggestion that would help others, please forward it for possible inclusion into the list found above.

Ok, now it's time to have fun with your child and their new Pedal Car. Enjoy this phase of your family's life as it surely will change sooner than you can imagine...and remember, when your children out-grow their Pedal Car, be sure to store it away for your grandchildren. It's really a kick to watch one's grandchildren use the same toy that was once loved and used by your children!
